Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most important questions about free tutoring and the Education and Participation Package (BuT).
What is the Education and Participation Package (BuT)?
The Education and Participation Package (BuT) is government help for children and young people from families with a low income. It makes sure all children can learn well. This includes the state paying for professional tutoring when a child needs better results, for example to move up a grade or to graduate.
Who is eligible for free tutoring?
Students up to 25 years old are entitled if their family gets one of these benefits:
- Citizen's Allowance (formerly Hartz IV)
- Housing benefit
- Child supplement
- Social assistance
- Benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act
Does the tutoring affect my Citizen's Allowance?
No. You get the BuT in addition. It is not counted as income against your social benefits. You get the full tutoring, and your money from the authority is not reduced.
